A World Made New was written in May, 2020 in the early days of the COVID pandemic. The book anticipated that up to US$20 trillion, would be spent over the following 18 months to avoid economic collapse and argued that investing this money in driving low-carbon, resilient and inclusive development was a once in a generation opportunity. In A World Made New I asked us to resist the temptation to return to an extractive economy characterized by environmental destruction and social inequality, and instead "reinvent" - turn this moment of crisis into an opportunity to build a 21st century economy that is both just and sustainable. I offered 15 design principles and practical recommendations spanning taxes and subsidies, social protection programs, and corporate leadership.
